The $30-million Fury 325 will be the tallest and fastest 'giga coaster' in the world. Fury 325 will reach 325 ft (99 m) at its highest point and will hit speeds of 95 mph (153 km/h). Set to debut in spring 2015, the 325-foot-tall giga coaster will fly over and under a new entrance plaza planned for the Carowinds amusement park located on the North Carolina-South Carolina state line.

Fastest Giga Coaster

Built by Swiss-based Bolliger and Mabillard, which has designed over 90 roller coasters around the world, Fury 325 will reach a top speed of 95 mph over a 6,600-foot-long track during the nearly three and one half minute ride. It covers an area of 8.4 acres (3.4 hectares) and can accommodate 1,470 riders every hour.

Three 32-passenger trains operate on the 3-minute, 25-second ride featuring airtime hills inducing camelback hills. The high-speed inversionless Fury 325 giga coaster also features S-curves and overbanked turns. Fury 325's hornet-and-hive theme pays tribute to the nearby North Carolina city of Charlotte, which was dubbed a "hornet's nest of rebellion" during the Revolutionary War.

Riders will board into three 32-passenger open air trains and begin their ascent to the top of a 325-foot (over 30 stories) hill. After climbing to the top of the 32-story lift hill, riders will descend an 81-degree first drop into a 190-foot-tall barrel turn and a high-speed S-curve reaching speeds of up to 95 miles per hour. After racing over Carowinds’ front gate, Fury will whip around a 157-foot-tall, 91-degree overbanked horseshoe turn before diving under a pedestrian bridge near the entrance plaza. Following a 101-foot-tall curve and a 111-foot-tall hill, the last leg of the ride concludes with a brief dip underground and a double helix towards the end of the ride. The building of Fury 325 is complete and it is now in its testing phase. The ride opens to the public on Mar 28.
